I THINK THAT MORON MAY BE A FORUMITE OR A JEALOUS LURKER!

A few weeks ago I had posted a few picks of me playing, then later that evening I got a nasty e-mail about "how many times do I have to see that bald head of yours!" The "author" of that e-mail used an anonymous generator so I would not know who he/she really was. Well, I do know that he/she peruses the forum, and that person is a coward for pulling these stunts. My guess it that Jeff's responder may be the same person, perhaps.

This one's for you, Anonymous!!!

And this one, too!!!

Jeff - what no pick in the pictures??? That would have added to the poetic justice!! :D

I use both fingers and picks, depending on the sound I need for the song. Jeez, the objective is to fit the groove and whatever it takes is valid.

I have an idea who this clown's idol is. I just don't want to start another flame war....

I play mostly with a pick & with my fingers a bit. I also have a mostly bald head.

And mostly I hate cowards who lurk & run their mouths so they can make their pathetic little lives better in their eyes.

Jaco - but don't take this as a slam of the guy or his abilities... It just seems to fit the "fingers only" guy's remarks.

Bizarre comment (and the one to you too Jeffrey). I'm shocked. It's strange how people pass the time...

I can't get on with a pick myself, although I once played a bit of Red Barchetta with a drumstick after our drummer messed up his stick juggling and I caught it (was pretty awful). When someone recently asked me if I thought pick players were inferior, I had two words to say:

Chris Squire

Some people have commented that my playing style puts a lot of stress on the strings. Then I saw a photograph of you, Jeff, where it looks like you're about to launch an arrow with that B string!

Jon, if you are refering to my comments, nothing nasty was intended. My comment about a pick to Jeff was the same intent as him posting a picture again of his bald head, to thumb his nose at the anon. poster, and since that poster is anti-pick, it would have completed the act if Jeff was playing with one, thats all.

John, I didn't mean your comment - I meant the original one that Jeff received. I should have made that clearer.

Sorry for any confusion caused...

I think I'm known as "The Pickstyle Defender" on TalkBass, haha!

For some reason I failed to mention Chris Squire?!?!

Good point!

I played fingerstyle for years, thinking using a pick on the bass was inferior(I was trying to play TOOL songs with my fingers...DOH!).....then I saw this band that mine opened up for, and their bass player sounded awesome - he was using a pick.

That's when I found my purpose for picking up the bass.Image

"That's when I found my purpose for picking up the bass."

Would that be "pick"ing up the bass??!!

Jon - no problemo - didn't want any ambiguity.

I wish I had the patience to practice CS's picking technique. The pick still feels foreign to me. I also need to learn some of CS's (and others) bass chords.

I use to think pick players just sucked. Then I heard some guys like Chris Squire, Doug Pinnick and I watched Chip rock out a few times with a Pick. That quickly gained my respect. Of course I had to learn how to do it to. Still working on that part.

The Bald thing... I dont get... I dont care how you dress, what you look like, your hair style or any of that.... It just doesnt matter. As long as you can play then you deserve respect.

Bald is beautiful, and picks or fingers are both cool.

Also, that's a great pic of the fireglo you posted, Jacob.

Love yer 'stache, Jacob. Oh, and holy **** your hair is long?

I used to despise pick players. I think it's limiting. I wouldn't get all nasty with a full time pick player, but most, if not all of my technique is fingers. Fingerstyle, flaminco, psudo slapping (hit with my thumb and index finger on the E string), and some popping. When I grab a pick my hand gets cramps from holding it. I just can't do it.. well that and the big *** rick tailpiece is in the way.

I respect the people that use picks now though. I used to think they sucked, but let them do what they're comfortable with, not flame them for it.
