I agree with Bob. I had emailed that seller the first time he listed that Monty Brown 4003 FL. I made a reasonable bid on that bass. He never replied. This is the third time he has listed it. I would still love to get it, but his price is too high. If it was fretted he might get his price (not from me). I think most people are not looking for a fretless.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS!

$1200 is about what figure for the 4003 MB FL also. It probably would be about $15 each time he had listed it. He could have taken me up on my offer in the first auction and got it over with already.
I'm beginning to think there is any such thing as a "beater" price for a Rick anymore.

Last year I went into my local music shop and saw a 1989 4001S beat to hell, Ruby Red for $600. I thought to myself who would pay that much for a rick with most of the paint chipped off. It was really my dream bass if it was in nicer shape. About 2 or 3 days later I went into the shop to get a second look and it was GONE! Now I'm sorry I didn't pick it up. I was thinking $400 would have been a good price. I guess my Rics are a good investment. But I really just want to play them.
Keeping with the thread, also posted in the FOR SALE section.... "Ask and you shall receive"...I tried that on the Mrs once and she added......"a lump on your head"
Forum Special: Mint 2004 MG 4003. Rough case. $975.00 shipped, fair enough price?
No issues...NOT A BEATER. Bass is MINT-case has seen better days.

Tony: That is a fantastic price.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

I own a pretty heavy lady (about 10lbs.): 4003FG from 1997 (Serial no. V0 xxxx), that I bought then just in a near mint condition with a vintage case, all together for 750,- US$!!! As a friend brought it over to Germany, I even saved the shipping costs. This bass, beside it's weight is the best Rick I ever played (...and that were quite a few...) in terms of sound and playability.
However she does not have quite the 4001 bite. So I'm still looking for a light weight 4001...
The guy I bought my 4003 from was a church a brother, down south and I also mainly use it for our worship band in our church. However she also likes to ad her pounds to R'n'B of the other band I'm playing with. For the care of my spine I then bought the TR4004Cii from Marc Henson which is only even less than 8lbs. for only about 1200 Euro which is another steal over here in EU. However I still did not obtain the bite of a 4001 with that one and the "baseball"-neck of the 4004 is something else too. I also never sold a Rick except to other serious players and never over 1000 Euro, no matter what restoration I invested.
Most of these guys still play them and love 'em.
