JOHN SIMMONS' 4001 LH

Post by jingle_jangle »

It's a '72...full-zoot, too! Sparkle inlays, checkerboard binding, etc. It's led a busy life and had about twenty-five extra screw holes in the top that I had to fill, but with its dark BG finish and new pickguard, it looks pretty fresh.

The truss rods were really bent and chewed-up, so I shortened them slightly and brazed one that was showing stress cracks at the folded end. I rethreaded both and fitted new nuts. They slid in and snugged up just like new and the neck adjusted really sweet.

Only a few pictures of this one, but it goes out this week (one of two completed last week!) and I think that John will be really glad to get it back!

Oh My...(tears of joy welling up..)

A metamorphosis for sure. I am SO glad I did this.

Dave, you'll betcha I'll bring it up there.

While I'm glowing, I'd like to thank:

Paul for his talents and attention to detail that made this bass look GREAT.

Jon Cassleman for pics of his beautiful 1973 4001BG, which was the basis for me choosing the color for this resto. I really dig the dark BG finish, and it seems to be more of what was going on during that period.

Thanks to Don Adamek, Chris Clayton, David Axt, Kenny Howes, Mike Parks and some guy on ebay (lol) for various pieces-parts for the transformation.

Don't mind me, I'll just be looking at the pics all day...Image

I'm glad John, that my bass and the photos of it that I gave to you inspired you to have Paul refinish your 4001 in the same colour.

It turned out magnificent!

Are we related now?

Another superb piece of work Paul. The first generation BG (The layman's Eggplantglo) is by far the best imo...

It's second bass in the lineup tight now, Paul.

And playing third bass is...

And who's on first?

Seriously, though, I'm home today for the third day out of four because we had to take my youngest to the hospital. Girl Scout Camporee left her with a terrible respiratory thing.

So I can't check my records to see who's the next bass in line. Next guitar is a 320, though and we traded e-mails yesterday on it.

I echo Kevin's sentiments, Paul. Hope she's on the mend quickly.

More eyeball-grabbing work, Paul!
