John, you'll have to let us know your first impressions when you open the case, knowing what it was like when you sent it off for restoration.

Paul, another superb job for us to savor.

Most excellent BG color - now I see what everyone has been talking about with this color. And (drool) checkered (drool) bindings (drool). Did I say I really like checkered bindings?! (drool)

Was there a before pic that I missed?

For those who are interested in "the rest of the story", this is the tale of the bass and how it got to this point...(from the other thread)...

If you wish to see the bass as it was when I bought it about 5-6 years ago, here is a link to it:

http://www.homestead.com/aurs3/leftybass.html

The bass had many mods: tuners, bridge p/up(V63), bridge/tailpiece(V63), pickguard and knobs(V63)...you get the picture..plus a wacky looking TRC from a post 1988 bass.

After I bought the 72 4001 LH that was used on the Forum bass t-shirt, I was going to sell this bass. For a while I had started scrounging for parts to put back correctly and sell it---I bought a new lefty wiring harness from RIC and input jacks. The high-gain was purchased from a circa 1973 bass, it's not quite early enough for a 72 but it'll do nicely....oh yeah, I saved a good set of wavy Grovers for it too. Anyhoo----

Feeling bored one day I decided to get the soldering iron out and get it going again, I hadn't played it in about two years. With the high-gain and the toaster I thought it would sound good. I was right. It sounds REAL good.

So, I decided to keep it and really bring it back right, or as right as we can. I sent it out to Paul to work some magic and TLC on it, and I thought it was a good basis for a restoration.

And here we are. COOL!

Thanks, John. Quite a change, huh! Is the '79 next to it on your link JG or BG - I can't really tell with this notebook screen. The body looks JG but the headstock has a brownish look on my lcd. Just curious if you had a pair now.

Paul, I am very sorry to hear about your daughter's illness.... We will be keeping her (and you and your wife too) in our prayers.... Here's hoping she recovers quickly!

"I was going to sell this bass."

If memory serves me right, I talked with John about buying the bass.

Nice work Paul, it is one beautiful bass.

A speedy recovery to Jingle Jangle Jr. I hope one day, Paul, you can take your little ones back to Grandma's old hood and point out where Ringo's drums were made.

That is in the works sometime soon, Glenn...she's been asking to see Chicago for awhile now.

Hope your daughter is feeling better Paul, all the best to her.

John, the 79 is Jetglo, yes. Many of the Ricks on that page are gone but not forgotton...I need to get with JWilli and update the page.

Richard, yep this is the one. It was somewhere in between when I got it and what it looks like now. It sounded so cool and I had to change my mind and keep it. There were a couple of others who called about it as well, but I'm glad they balked on it, LOL...

Paul,

May I add my prayers for your daughters return to good health also.

On the other topic. I love burgundy. If I had my white 4001 bass refinished that would be one of the colours I would have to choose from. As always you did a beautiful job.
