Opinions on SWR Wokingman's 2x10?

Post by edski »

I see a few of these on eBay, and have been looking for a new combo. I've heard that SWR has a good rep, and it looks like a solid piece of equipment.

Anyone have opinions on this amp? Thanks...

spend the extra $$ and get the real SWR 2x10. the WM series is lo-dough and I don't like the quality at all. I am basing this on my experience with the WM 1x15 that I had.

I have the WM 4X10 & haven't had any problems. Sounds good & clear. I'm only pushing 200W into it, & it's fine for stage volume.
I've used it outdoors twice & it sounded great there too. Nice & punchy, lots of lows.
I have a Peavey 2X10 that I set back by the drummer, kind of as a monitor for him, but I don't like the sound of that one by itself.
Plus five minus five!

I thought they were pretty good bang for the buck amps. Compared to a hartke I liked the WM better.

Just remember a 2 x 10 has even less cone area than a single 15" speaker. Unless it has a very powerful amp with very good speakers and cab design it will probably work better as a boom box which actually may be why they named it the wokingman. har!

You get what you pay for. I use SWR professional series amps and have had good luck, but I have found the WM stuff to be on par with other junk in this price range. Imported solid state stuff all sounds kind of the same to me; Hartke, Peavy, SWR, Fender, etc. The Super REdhead combo is a nice unit that can be had used for < $500.
No matter where you go - there you are.
