Any other lady bassists out there? ...
I have been reading while waiting for admin approval.........I don't think I have seen one post from a woman Ric bass player? What is up with that?
I got the idea about a year ago that I could probably play bass since I play rhythm guitar. I play a vintage 320 that my youngest brother ordered and then sold me back in 1981, not sure why........but I love it! I just thought that maybe their basses would be as easy to play as the 320. So I went on eBay and bought a 1980 4001! I plunked around with it and finally started playing in some jams about 6 weeks ago. I really love this thing! People kept turning around and staring at my amp and I guess, wondering what that grrrrowling sound was! Anyway, I am learning to play it and loving it! What is really challenging is playing songs that I don't know in one genre right after the next. I love this forum!
ALso, I ran across a pic of same brother in a band pic, one band that I was not in, and he was playing a 4001, also! I never knew he had one, but he is a McCartney nut, so it makes sense. Anyone else have a weird reason for buying a Ric?

Welcome Kaia! I'm also uaware of any lady bassists here, but you can certainly be #1!!!
Looking forward to your take on the low end. I've been playing bass and guitar for 33 years and always enjoy other points of view and playing tips, etc. You will learn alot here, even if you already know alot, and this place has become an important part of my daily routine. I think you'll find it a most enjoyable place to hang!

Okay, sensitive male players are gonna have to suffice! I just figured since women ride Harleys these days.................now men are drinking chamomile tea?
I guess lady bassists are an oddity in general! A couple people told me that if I could play bass, I would be in demand and sure enough, I got a call after the first jam. It seems that there are not enough bass players to go around! Works for me since there are always millions of guitar player, and all better than me!

I'm not a woman and I don't like Lifetime movies but I do occasionally watch the Hallmark channel. Does that keep me out of the above category? lol
Like you, I'm a guitar player who plays bass once in awhile and I used to have a Rick 320. I now have a 4003S, an old 350, and an old 450/12. I played bass in a bar band just out of high school back in 1981 and I bought a Rick right off the bat. I'm sure it was because I was such a Beatles and McCartney fan. I always liked the dot markers of the "S" series.
To be honest, I'm not aware of any women posters who play bass. I know that the bass player in the Praise Band at my friend's church is a young lady but I've never met her. The only reason I even know this is that they call me up and ask if I can fill in for her if she's unavailable.
Have fun as a member here.

Wow, a friendly bunch! I don't know a lot! I have played whatever instrument is needed in most bands that I have played in. If I don't know it, I fake it! I am really loving playing bass, but the scale takes some getting used to. I find singing while playing bass much harder to do than guitar! I hope that with more experience, I will get it since I am primarily a singer!
Well, I do feel ultimately cool with my Ric, lemme tell you! I had no idea they were such a cult instrument, but I totally understand it! I look forward to learning from all you experienced players. Right now, I am trying to figure out the Ric-o-sound feature??? I just plug into the rear jack. Does anyone really cart around 2 amplifiers? Also, what can I buy for a real bass amp? Not a huge stack...... I am currently playing through my Peavy Classic. Not too loud, though.

While there might not yet be many female Rick bass players,
let's not forget that there were many ladies with Rickys in the past.
Gaye Advert comes to mind....
And Lemmy refused to teach her after he saw she got an Azureglo one.....
Oh yeah and-
welcome to the zoo.... where the lunatics run the asylum!
