I go to an "Applied Kinesiologist" Chiropractor who has helped me and my family, friends. I will go to an MD In certain situations. They seem to treat the symptom and rarely the cause and the side affects of medications prescribed have their own side effects which then requires more drugs to treat that and on and on it goes..

My brother, sister and I all have Diverticulitis which showed up in all of us sometime in our 40s (I'm the youngest at 51). Initially we were told to keep away from small seeds (I mean SMALL, like strawberry seeds)and drink plenty of water. i usually get an attack once or twice a year. If drinking a lot of water doesn't solve the problem, my doc prescribes an antibiotic which usually knocks it out within 12 hrs.

Get the surgery Steve, and quit suffering.
I went through the same thing, until I was forced to have it done. My doctor gave me hell for putting it off so long. He told me that my colon almost ruptured from such a enflamed case.
You no what happens in that case. You get the old bypass temporary routing done with a nifty little bag attached.
It's nothing to mess with, trust me.
Buy it before someone else does.

"most Americans go through life constipated and dehydrated ..."

There you go, Jeff, bringing Politics into the discussion again...I catch a lot of h*ll whenever I do it...
I didn't get where I am today by being on time...

Bob, thanks for the advice. What did the surgery entail? In my case if I'm only getting it once a year and knock it right out, surgery seems a little drastic to me. Now, if i let it go and didn't get treatment, yes, the colostomy bag could be a reality.

Steve, I was doing the same thing. After the first bout, I ended up in the hospital. After that I would get an attack like you, once or twice a year and I would simply pop some cypro (stupid thing to do). That approach didn't help much, so after the last attack I said screw it, and had the surgery.
The surgery consisted of a weeks stay in hospital. The procedure was about 3 hours, done with a laparoscope. Three small incisions about an inch, and one large incision about 6 inches where they removed a foot of my colon. Don't mean to scare you but, after surgery I experienced the worse pain I have ever had for a few days. The pain was OK if I didn't try to sit up or move. I had a morphine pump where I could give myself a dose. I was so doped up from the morphine that I was complaining about the pain, and the nurse said I wasn't even using the pump. LOL After that, I was pushing the button on that pump all the time, and the pain wasn't so bad. The worse part is having your first bowel movement after you digestive system comes back to functioning properly. This must be done before they release you from the hospital.
Anyway, after about 2 weeks recovering at home, I was fine. I am glad I hade the surgery, and I haven't had any problems at all since, and that has been since 1999. I can eat whatever I want, and all is fine. Image
Good luck!
