Got my first Rickenbacker

Post by beatlenut »

Well, I made the plunge last night. I played the 2002 330 for an hour at the guys house last night. I tried many varieties of music and was pleased with almost all. Not as loud as I had hoped and I don't think I'll switch to the toasters based on that fact. I was very pleased how it sounded with distortion thru my POD. Nice round sound, not harsh like my strat. I can hear the notes. Such thing as clean distortion? I'll probably stick to my Gibson if I want a big heavy sound, but if I want nice clean or light distortion, it appears the Rickenbacker will get its share of work. I will give it a debut at our worship service this sunday. Can't wait to hear it on "God of Wonders".

Congratulations Keith!
If you play your Ric much at all, I'll wager it won't be your first one. It's a disease, mate. You might find yourself with a few more as the years roll by.
Now plug into an amp with lots of clean headroom (or the Church's PA!) and try all the pickup positions. Have fun. You've got a great guitar there. Cheers, Noel

Congrats on the 330/12.

That's also one of my "Things To Do" for this year -- get that 12-string into some worship music. :-) Any songs in G, A or E are naturals for the 12.

For me, it'll have to be the TP, though, and I think it'll sound pretty good.

Good job and excellent choice! I agree with your comments regarding distortion. I was playing my new Epi Dot tonight giving the humbuckers a run for their money when a string decided it was all too much. I switched to my Rick 360 and rolled back the gain a bit on my amp but left quite a bit of bite. I changed from straight strumming to a strum and pick pattern (I am not a guitarist --strictly a hobbyist that can barely play!)and was again impressed at how clear the notes of each string punched through. What a great guitar!

And oh yes...you will buy more in this lifetime!
