"...much difference tonally between the early ones & the reissues built in the '80s."

There never were reissues of the 4005 series, they were in continuos production from '65 through '84.

I notice that Squire plays his RM1999 quite high up on his person. And he never seems to play his signature basses. Since he designed the neck profile on the CS basses, there can't be much difference can there?
I recently went back to playing a Rickenbacker bass. Its like meeting an old friend again

Randy, "mature" (read old fart) players such as myself have to play the instrument on the upper part of the "12-pack abs", otherwise the bass tips down and you can't see what you're doing. Oh for the days when I had to worry about buckle rash. Long gone, I'm afraid. Now, certainly there are a lot of middle-aged players who stay fit and lean (look at Jeff Scott!), but I ain't one.

One thing I learned over the years. If you are gonna drink, drink the good stuff, especially with hard liquors. No, or barely, any hangover.

Great looking bass!
