Rickenbacker luthier in Bay Area?

Post by ataritoobin »

I've got a 60's 360/12 with a slim crack in the back of the neck towards the headstock, and some slight lifting on the fretboard towards the body. Unfortunately it looked like someone attempted to repair (glue?) it but didn't clamp it down (d'oh)! Is there a luthier in the San Francisco Bay Area that someone could recommend for this job (I'm located in San Jose)? The guitar sounds great and plays pretty well, but I'd rather not put tension on it to do any more damage, and want this fixed properly.

Thanks!

Steve, you ought to give forum member Paul Wilczynski a shot. Check out the topic Reflections of a Curmudgeon, or just email him. He lives in SF.

Steve, I know people that ship to Paul from the East cost. If you live in SF, you are crazy not to use him..

Steve,

Stan and Dave have given you the best recommendation. I add my voice to their view as well.

If Paul can't get to it or is otherwise occupied, try Jon Mello in Kensington.(Berkeley area) He is a *very experienced* and careful repairman, and I would trust him with any guitar at all. He took over a lot of Jon Lundberg's clients when Lundberg retired from lutherie.

When I lived in SF, Geoff Nuttrell at SF Guitarworks on Potrero & 17th (near the Safeway) got all my business.

Thanks for all the input; it's greatly appreciated! Unfortunately, Paul is backed up until September so I'm having a few of the others check it out. I will let you know what I decide! Thanks again.

October 15th roughly, now. At the time I answered Steven (May 3rd) it was September 15th (roughly). But work comes in constantly.
