Current photos of Lennon's guitars

Post by grinch »

Have a look at these pictures:

If you'll notice, both of those guitars have a shadow on the fretboard due to the stand of the guitar. Now, in Tony Bacon's Rickenbacker book, if you look at the pictures of DB122 and the 325/12, you'll see the same shadow on the fretboard. What does this mean?

Well, it means that somebody took really high-resolution photos of these guitars, including DB122 and the 325/12, and the photos in Bacon's book had the background removed. And, I'd really like to find where these photos are, who has the rights to them, and who took 'em, so I can find the rest of them!

Thanks for any help.

Nick, I sent you an e-mail a couple of days ago. Did you receive it?

It's probably been stated before, but that's a pretty crummy refin on the Rick. But it is still exciting to see it.

You can see what looks like the original natural finish around the pickguard.

As far as the photo of John's V81, that photo is at least 12 years old. It appaeared in an early 90's edition of the history of Rickenbacker guitars book. It's been the subject of much discussion here previously regarding finishing, dust on the guitar, and whether it's even the real thing, etc. Are we up for starting this thread again? Could be fun.....

Here's a recent photo (I think) of the '58 325 from the Lennon exhibit that was on display over in Japan. Anyone's guess on when the photo was taken.

There are some great pics of Lennon's guitars as they are now in the book Beatles Gear. Which I'm sure most of you know.

No, Paul, I didn't receive it. You see, I closed that email account a long time ago (the one that I registered with here) but I can't find out how to change it!

Nick- Great pic of the Casino! Interesting that not only was the black volume knob on it but the neck pup tone control knob was missing.

Great detail pic though! When I was watching the Give Me Some Truth DVD I noticed how the trapeze tailpiece was extremely corroded along the body edge at the strap hook. Makes me wonder if they even bother to take the tailpiece off when the guitar was stripped?

I dunno, they're both heavily modded, with corroded metal and VG shape at best... probably not worth all that much today.
