Tuners for 74 4001

Post by yuzerneigm »

I need new tuners for a 4001 bass. It had the old Grovers on it originally. I was wondering the Grover Titan tuners would be a proper fit for a 1974 4001. If not what do you guys recommend?

Thanks!, Chris

Also need a bridge for this bass. Not the whole tailpiece but just the bridge piece with saddles. Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome Chris...

I do not know about the Titan Grovers fitting, however the Grovers from the early 70's show up on ebay fairly often.

Be quick if you see them for sale.

Some of the other Forum members tend to hoard them.

Thanks Dave. I've seen someon eBay recently but missed them. Figured I'd see if the Titans would fit.

Welcome Chris! The Titans will not fit, they have a larger post.

I reamed the holes out a bit on my '73 4001 and put Hipshot Ultralite tuners on it. These are excellent tuners and you can get them with the Y keys as shown or the traditional Cloverleaf keys.

Chris, I think I have what you are looking for. Email me at [email protected]. I will pull out my parts box and see what I have. But I'm pretty sure I have the Grovers and the tailpiece.

Put the Grover Slimlines on, they are original and look cool.

I have a set of Titans that are completely shot, which is to say that they're good for maybe 5 minutes before retuning. I would be afraid that any on ebay would be the same. I opened the holes up and installed Hipshot Ultra-lites with the cloverleaf shape.

Speaking of tuners...

Does anybody have a single Wavy Grover that they'd part with? The one I need fits the A-string location (D on a left-handed bass)...lemme know here or e-mail me...Many thanks.
