Question

Post by cerrem »

I...
I have a 1975 4001 bass...I removed the cap in series with the treble pup when I first got the bass so i can have a big sounding treble pup... I would like to install the 500K tone pot with pull switch...This way I can put the cap back in series or bypass it...
Only need a SPST for that.... The Ric web-site doesn't have them for sale... I have heard some members who have done this...Can you recommend where to get this pot.... I know web-sites that sell the cheap piece of ### Alpha pots with the DPDT on the back...these have smaller sized split shaft and are knurled...not what i am looking for.... I need to locate a quality pot in the correct size or the same one Ric used...
Thanks
Best Regards
Chris

Yes, it seems they have withdrawn the switching pot. A supply shortage, perhaps?

Try Torres engineering. They do tube amps. I got a 500k solid shaft switch pot which WILL fit into the shallow Rick cavity. It works perfectly, and it fits. It is an Alpha pot, but I haven't had any problems with it.
Result!
What d'ya mean... the bass is TOO loud!

I got an email from Kenny Howes at RIC. He said the the switching pot will be available again soon under another product code (sku number), and to keep a watch on the RIC website for when they become available again, in the electronics section.

And to let all know, the one RIC was selling had a smaller shaft on it also (was a CTS). Flat not knurled, but it was smaller diameter. Also was DPDT but I wired both switch contacts together for redundancy. I put one on my 2004 4003. FWIW

I found a nice quality CTS in my parts box..It is 1 Meg pot with a pull type SPST switch on the back...It is a solid shaft and is the full size pot, not the smaller size and best all it is made in USA..... What I will do is open it up and pull the 1Meg phenolic strip out..then replace it with a 500K phenolic... I will need to buy a regular 500K CTS pot to get the strip from....
The part# is 1377421 19-11
