Tony: I didn't know they came in fireglo.

Gorgeous Tony. While you are at it, how would you compare the tonality of the 24 fret 650C with humbuckers versus the 330 24 fret with high gains?

Totaly different beasts Peter. The 330 is 'rounder', fatter & janglier, but the 650 has a great sound that I will use quite a lot, both live & in the studio. The 650 has a lack of upper mid than the hi-gained thinlines, in fact when you try them side by side, you suddenly become aware just how semi-acoustic the thinlines actually sound. Oddly enough, the 650 does have that Ric family sound, but no where near the classic jangle...you can tell it's a Ric though.

IMO, not a patch on the hollow bodies....BUT.... I am finding uses for it where it actually does jobs that the thinlines can't do....so all in all, a great sounding, beutifully made, easy to play little gem...everyone should have one!

One of the side effects of ownership, is that I'm going to try a 620...a gtr that I've never really considered in the past!

Tony,

I too have a 650 Monty. I currently am playing it with 10's. Have you tried thinner strings (well, 9's)?

I realize it might take some of the fatness away. Just curious and too lazy/busy to change strings at the moment! Thanks!

Tony, Change your volume pots to 500k ohm in place of the 250k ohm pots. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Jerry, I played your 650 a day or so before it shipped out. Nice.

I still have the stock RIC strings on mine. I was thinking of .011"s though as I had them on my 610 and really liked them.

Thanks Ken. I was counting the minutes, after my ribbing of Tony, before you posted this beauty. Under 2 hours! Full marks.

Tony: A nice comparison, that's for your analysis.

I wouldn't go less than 10's on any gtr Jerry, in fact I may consider 11's on this one. 9's just don't provide the tone that I'm looking for.

Thanks for the pot info Ken....I will look into this.

I agree Peter...fireglo is always more beautiful than any other colour. Image

Thanks, Peter!

Tony, if you de-solder one of the volume pot legs that go to the pot can it will give the same effect. The volume control will not be very effective though. This is a no cost way to see if you like it. Since the vol pots are wired between the pickup selector and the output jack they are always in the circuit. Pulling one ground puts the circuit at 250k as opposed to 125k (2 X 250k in parallel). Both pickups will change in clarity and tone. I did this and then used a small jumper to hear the difference. This makes an easy A-B comparison.

Kevin, That is not just Fireglo it is Firehouse Blanket-glo. LOL

Thanks Tony, I agree.
Way beautiful, Don.
Can I see a picture of the case?
The guitars are rare enough, but I've never seen a Rickenbacker acoustic guitar case!
Thanks.
