U.K. music loses a good friend

Post by johnhall »

I've just had a sad e-mail reporting that Barry Mitchell of Wing Music, London, passed away last night at the young age of 57. He was well known to all of us who have been involved in the U.K. music industry and especially to us here, given that he was a long time Rickenbacker distributor there in the 1960's and 1970's.

If you'd care to send a card to his daughter Kate (who has operated Wing Music now for some years) here's contact details:

Kate Mitchell
C/O Wing Music
442 Upper Elmers End
Beckenham BR3 3HQ
United Kingdom

Thank you John. I am sorry to hear of his passing.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

I'm truly sorry about the loss. I lost my beautiful sister Lydia last month at the young age of 50 to that ******* ovarian cancer. It came on quickly... just ten days in the hospital and she was gone. Were suffering here, places like this board help alot.

Sad news indeed. Although I hadn't seen Barry for a while, for much of the mid to late 80's I spent a lot of time at Wing Music when they were based in Sidcup, mostly talking about and buying Rickenbackers. So much so - that I even went to the staff Christmas party. Barry was a great guy, full of stories of the music business, although I always got the impression it wasn't about the "business" for him. He just seemed to enjoy the buzz. It was Barry that invited me down to meet John Hall and Roger McGuinn when they were passing through the UK. Something I will always be grateful for.

He sounded like the kind of guy we could use more of in the world. Very sad to hear, my condolences to family, friends, customers, and acquaintences.

Sad news.. I'm sure sending a card is a great idea, but would it be considered lacking class to e-mail condolences also? If not, they can be reached at [email protected]. Just double-checked the site on the 'net. Same address, so I'm assuming it's them. Whatcha all think?
