Quick chops,,modded Rick

Post by cheyenne »

Pretty awsome. I think the bass sounds good, but would have sounded better with the stock pickup.

Love the side position markers.

Yeah real quick chops. The space suits are creepy, though.

The great thing is, Juan Alderete, bassist for Racer X (and now with the amazing Mars Volta), plays that bass line with FINGERS. Imagine the crazy cramps he got practicing that . . .

Side... and halfway around the back... markers!
My first bass was a Rickenbacker...
My best bass is a Rickenbacker...
My last bass may very well be a Rickenbacker

I think it sounds amazing with the P-bass pickup. It looks like a fairly well done mod to me and his playing is incredible. Not my style of music but great to watch.

Err, Bobcat...looks like Aldrete is using a pick. Still fantastic playing. And I'm OK with the sound...sort of sad to see a nice 4000 like that cut up, though.

I'm dont think Aldrete is the guy in this clip. I arent really sure who the three guys in that trio are but feel sure that Bobcat was talking about the same piece but performed by Racer X. Aldrete is very quick and does not use a pick. There is a clip on the Racer X website of them performing Scarified from '87. It is poor quality but you get the idea.

that looks like a 70s set neck 4000 bass ... actually it looks good and sounds good with the p-bass pickup in it ... it has a good Rick tone ... to me the 4000 always looked like a 4001 missing some parts ...

notice the big white markers on the back of the neck ... I guess he will be able to find the frets ... also the headphones ... don't those guys know headphones became obsolete when they came out with in ear monitors? ... I like the space suits look ... but they have to be uncomfortable ...

very clean and fast playing ... but I wouldn't want to listen to that all night ...

Yeah, Juan Alderete is not the guy in the clip. He's got FAST fingers. And the great thing is, he really knows when the song calls for 32nd note craziness and when it calls for a whole note. Or even no bass.

Is Racer X even still together? I know Alderete is in the Mars Volta now, but I wonder if he might not also be in other bands at the same time.

Sounds cool. Like a cross between a Ric and a P-bass (surprise!).
The neck markers remind me of Pete Steele's (Type O) Fernandes Ric clone.

OK, I'm sorry! Image

Never heard of these guys before the other day when this was posted.

Found a couple videos of Aldrete. Yeah, fast fingers! Image

It does sound good with the P pickups, but it would sound better with a RIC pickup in it.

The pickup is the best part of a P bass in IMHO.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS! :-)
