It is a scatterwound toaster. The hi-gains were too murky sounding to get a good fretless tone, the toasters fixed that. The gain is lower but that is not a problem for me, they are still plenty hot enough.

BTW, I am thinking of selling this bass.

Thanks for the reply, Jeff. That is my experience with the high gains and toasters also. Clarity but less gain with the toasters.

I'll take the clarity any day over gain. I know where the volume knob is on my amp. Image

I agree with that so much I bought a toaster and unwound the bridge pup. Gave me pitch definition on the E string from open to A.

i bought the case. it was the only thing that one of my 100% original RM1999's was missing. price was high yes but only because another bidder wanted it nearly as much as i. I'm happy
