Contemporary Christian Artists Using Rickenbackers

Is anyone out there aware of any contemporary Christian artists/groups that are using Rickenbackers? Especially 12 strings? I'm toying with an idea.....

I believe the singer in Third Day plays a Rick 360.

I lead the worship team at my church with my 650D, and we play lots of contemporary stuff. However, I'm not famous...

Martin Smith of Delirious has used a maple glow 360. Like David, I use a Rickenbacker in our contemporary worship team and hold the same status as "not famous" as well.

Melissa also plays on a worship team. Her Rickenbacker guitars are famous. They grace the forum calendar. She's a great artist too. Although she's not famous either

I play my Rick 4003 in two worship bands and I'm not famous like many of you.

Haha.... Brian's right. I play my Rics on a worship team, and I write my own songs, too, but my Rics are much more famous than me--mainly because I always talk about them and sometimes post pictures when I'm hanging out here!

Ever heard of Mike Stand? He was the lead singer/guitarist for the Christian punk band the Altar Boys back in the mid 80's-early 90's.... He did three solo projects which strongly feature his Rickenbackers--which are pictured on the covers of two of them:

All of his stuff is good, but his solo projects are the best.... I especially love "Simple Expression" and "Full Circle".... Lots of great jangly Rickenpop sounds that always lift my spirits.... Check his sound clips out at www.mikestand.com.

Me too, not famous but sometimes infamous... but I use my V63 or my 4004Ci in service most every Sunday.

I PROBABLY shouldn't tell this story, but once, during communion, the entire team went up and I stayed behind, my back was out. I apparently had a "momentary lapse of reason" and why I don't know, but I broke out into Pink Floyd's MONEY. The collection had just ended and I guess it was fresh on my mind. I don't know. But boy, the wife was PO'D!

It was pretty funny, looking back at it now; I got to know who was "cool" when I saw about 8 heads pop up out of the 400 people there when they heard the familiar start of the song. I quickly transitioned into Amazing Grace and smoothed it over.

I'd love to get a band going at my church... as of now there's only my wife on the trusty Hammond. It is a predominately older congregation... don't know how they'd take to a 4001!

That IS kinda funny....

Another band I just thought of that uses Rics to good advantage is Sixpence None the Richer.... I just bought their "Best Of" CD, and it is jam-packed with lots of ear-friendly tunes, and I love it.... Their covers of "Don't Dream It's Over" and "There She Goes" are GREAT and packed with Rickish sound....and the electric guitar on "Kiss Me" can only be a Ric 12-string....

Thanks to all for the responses...keep 'em coming. I just completed rhythm tracks for a re-do of "Fairest Lord Jesus" that is predominantly a 330 12, over a Gibson J-185 12 acoustic, with bass and drums. The idea is to make it sound something akin to "the Byrds meet Stephen Curtis Chapman." "You Are My All in All" is next. This is all leading up to (hopefully) a CD of all original Christian tunes in the same style. Just trying to create the feel and cop the sound right now, while the originals get polished.

I wish I could make the 330 12 my primary instrument in our Praise Band, but I'm supposed to be the acoustic (6 and 12) player. The RIC is just so much fun, though.

Sounds like a great project, Jere.... I'd love to hear it when it's done!

Our worship team is kind of an eclectic mix of old and new (both the players and preferred styles of worship music, LOL).... We try to do a fair mix of old hymns and gospel songs along with the newer contemporary praise songs.... Currently our team is made up of an acoustic guitar player/singer, an electric guitar player/singer (me), a bass player(he plays a 4001v63 now, thanks to my influence, LOL), a keyboard player, an organist, and two or three others who just sing.... We lost our drummer about a year ago when his family moved away, and we are still sorely missing him.... Anyway, our sound is pretty unique--I think we really shine on the contemporary tunes.... And sometimes the acoustic player and I sing and play duets together backed up by the bass, and I always LOVE how we get those songs to work.

Nothing beats the sound of those Rics!
