Gary, that's a good idea. I only suggested mp3 to avoid the mail. I should have my biggest hit ready to go by next week.

Sorry I haven't been on the ball with this, but I've just had a week of intense work!

OK....some thoughts on how to proceed....

I hear about glass mastering, sampling rates, printed booklets, mastering etc....but reality is that IMO, the demand for these CD's will be between 40-100 copies! Normally, manufactured CD's, which offer some of the above sevices start at around 500 copies (some offer 300), but at a price that would make this project a non starter, unless anyone knows of a way of getting rid of the surplus copies. For the first forum CD, I would suggest a more modest approach, with a firm eye on quality of package, that will not let the forum, or Rickenbacker down.

I suggest that anyone interested should submit a maximum of two songs (to offer a choice), on CD format, via post to Gary, or myself (I will email Gary & suss out the go between idea).
They should be played primarily by Rickenbacker instruments & should contain no vulgar language, or potentially offensive content within the lyrics. They should be to a fairly decent standard of recording, (not too much hiss - no calling up the stairs that dinners ready etc!) but not neccesserily professionaly produced...recorded in the bedroom is fine. Notes should be attached explaining instruments used & basic recording set up.

If there are more entries than can comfortably fit on a CD (I am thinking along the lines of 16), then I will have to choose which will have to wait for volume 2.

I will semi - master the CD, trying to balance levels, apply EQ/enhancement/width etc & produce a quantity of CDR's. I will produce artwork, which Peter will approve (we will also check with John Hall) & print it to a decent standard via computer. I have produced many short run CD's this way & the results have been superb (better printing than shop bought in many cases) & have also produced CD artwork for many manufactured albums....so I am not entirely without experience in this matter.

Doing it this way will provide us with a super quality product, which will not cost a fortune & will test the water for volume 2. As far as cost goes, the CD's will sell for what they cost me....basicaly, the item cost + some ink & paper costs.

If this is agreed, then we will work out submission dates (perhaps untill the end of June) & then availability date (end of July?)
'Rickenbacker'...what a name! After all these years, it still thrills me.

Sounds great guys! Image

I will try to get a submission together as well... even if I play bass on one of my wife's songs due to my intense battle with writer's block... Image If I can assist in any way I'd be happy to do so!
What do you mean the Bass is too loud???

Tony, that sounds great. Don't forget shipping costs as well, just to be fair. Again, a US-based go-between would be smart, for distributing the finished product. Should we submit a picture, along with the song & description ? I hope my submission will make you and everyone else smile. If you can estimate the cost, maybe we can send pre-payments to Gary, along with our submissions. Is there also a currency exchange involved ? Whatever is easiest.

So when you say "played primarily by Rickenbackers", would that rule out a power trio that has yours truly and his 4004Cii on bass?

I'm in! I think this is definitely going to take more than one volume.

"post" means ? ...to put on a CD and physically mail it (address?) or email ...i just ask cuz if send CD format /.wav
files, were talking ~10 meg / min or 2 songs at somewhere around 60 megs ...or is there an ftp site to drop the tunes
into ? i dont know if my internet provider allows an outgoing mail attachment of ~30 megs each

"post" means snail mail. Physically send a CD to the location once it is finalized.

I just love the hint of growl in "When I'm Gone" Jeff.
