I once had warts on my hands removed, lots because anything that I even thought was one I had frozen off. About a dozen spots between my two hands... anyways, that night, there was a special sale at the House of Guitars and I went... with my hands covered in bandages in weird positions and stuff. Trying to play guitar fingerstyle with tons of them on was horrible!
"Here he is, come to pay homage to the Rickenbacker display!" (Said to me by owner Bruce at the "Great House of Guitars" in Rochester, NY)

I used superglue on my lanced blisters and that lasted for two songs into our two hour set and then this.....
....it's not as fun posting it when it is expected!
Not much you can do except tough it out. Hopefully your's doesn't come to this as it was somewhat painful. You have a week so I'd refrain from playing as much as you can until then. Good Luck Ed!

If you have enough time to heal, you can lance it and treat it like John D. said. I did that once, and after a week's rest, no problems on the next gig.
To prevent it in the future, just practice more frequently in between rehearsals. Work in an hour here or there every day or two - you will develop great callouses and be ready for anything.

Status - pain is pretty much gone, some of the upper layers have flaked off after showering, doing dishes, etc...but the skin is still intact. It's still a little puffy, but I think I'll be OK.
I'm going to start practicing a bit tonight.
But the crazy glue is going in the gig bag for Saturday. I might very well need it!

Above e-mail is inactive. try ed_ardzinski@**** where **** is Hotmail.com or Yahoo.com. I tend to see things inthe hotmail box quicker...
I practice EVERY day without fail, even if it's only for 15 minutes. Thats better than leaving it a couple of days then practicing for 2 hours. That way you keep the calluses built up. Plus don't play so hard! I like to clank and smack the strings, but if you play too hard, you are destroying the calluses you've built up. The tips of your fingers want to make new ones. That's what the volume control on an amp is for, to do the hard work for you!
What d'ya mean... the bass is TOO loud!
