RIC rocker Mike Stand

Post by anonymous »

I just joined this group a few days ago, and in perusing the RIC artists, I can't believe nobody has mentioned Christian alt rock pioneer Mike Stand (He was the lead singer/guitarist for the Altar Boys back in the '80's.... He played a mean and snarly telecaster back then, until their "Forever Mercy" release in 1989, when he started playing a 1962 fireglo 625). He also plays RICs on his 3 solo albums: "Do I Stand Alone," "Simple Expression" (I love the cover of that one; he is cradling a gorgeous RIC, obviously with a lot of love!), and his brand new release with Clash of Symbols, "Full Circle," with a 1967 jetglo 360 on the cover. His latest release is his best: great playing, and enough jangle to satisfy any serious Rickenbacker fan! A definite must-have.... Check it out at http://www.mikestand.com.

I've corresponded with Mike a number of times. Super-nice guy. I hope to meet him when I travel to LA in the future. He also owns a rare RIC acoustic from the early to mid 90's. I'll have to checkout his music.

Quote:Rickenbacker, Galaxy21 Music and Mike Stand Guitar Giveaway Contest

Nashville, TN - Christian modern rock veteran Mike Stand, former lead vocalist for the Altar Boys, Rickenbacker Guitars and Galaxy21 Music recently announced a guitar giveaway to celebrate the release of Stand's latest solo disk, Full Circle. Stand, in association with his long-time sponsor Rickenbacker Guitars, will surprise a lucky winner with a brand new, burgundy Rickenbacker, strings, strap and hard-shell case. The drawing is on September 1.

The Altar Boys, widely considered to be the punk pioneers of the Christian market, cleared the way for acts like MxPx, POD and Five Iron Frenzy as they toured constantly throughout the eighties and early nineties. After
releasing five studio albums the band went their separate ways, and Mike Stand put out several records as a solo artist. Stand's latest, the critically acclaimed Full Circle, is the long-awaited follow up to his four solo records with his band Clash Of Symbols. Full Circle, released on the Galaxy21Music label, is in stores now.

Rickenbacker Guitars has a long and storied reputation as the guitar of choice for many musicians, including George Harrison (Beatles), Pete Townsend (The Who), Tom Petty (Heartbreakers & Traveling Wilburys), David Crosby (Crosby, Stills, Nash), Peter Buck (REM), Dave Stewart (Eurythmics), Marty Willson Piper (The Church), Ed King (Lynyrd Skynyrd), and many others. Mike Stand is proud to be sponsored by Rickenbacker as well.

Galaxy21 Music is the artist owned and operated independent label of Dove-winning and Grammy-nominated artist The Choir. Galaxy21 Music was
launched in October 2000 as a vehicle to showcase recent projects by classic Christian rock bands such as The Choir, 77s, Daniel Amos, Adam Again, Undercover, Mike Stand (The Altar Boys) as well as newer artists like Buck Enterprises and Common Children.

More information on Mike Stand can be found on the web at http://www.galaxy21music.com. Rickenbacker Guitars makes its home at http://www.rickenbacker.com, and entries for the contest can be placed at http://www.buzzplant.com/galaxy21.My question is, Is his name really Mike Stand. Surely this is taken from mike-stand.

I didn't realize Rickenbacker did endorsement deals. Who else have they got deals with?

I believe he had a RIC B-15 amp for sale a while back, that I almost bought.

I think it's hilarious that they didn't mention Roger McGuinn, but they DID mention David Crosby, who played a Gretsch most of the time....time for a re-write here, fellas. LOL

Been communicating with Mike and wanted to clarifly a few things for the record.... He does not have an endorsement deal with Rickenbacker, but he is a good friend of the company! He also is aware of the errors in the press release and wanted to change it, so here it is the way he would have worded it, for those who are interested...

Edited Galaxy 21 press release.

Just discovered these great photos of a couple of his Rics in action at last year's Cornerstone festival....His Rics are pretty hard to find in his website photo album, as most of the pics there are from his Tele-totin' days with the Altar Boys....

Wow! Perhaps the most gorgeous Model 360 I have ever seen.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

It's one thing to see it, and another (better) thing to hear it.... That's the guitar that's featured on the cover of his "Full Circle" album.
