Radiohead in Toronto

Post by squid »

Not a huge, huge fan, but I got the chance to go to this show last night, and I couldn't say no. I know that they're known Ric users, but for those keeping score, Ed O'Brien was using a Fireglo 360. He used it on "Karma Police" and "Let Down". I couldn't tell if he was playing it through his Mesa or his Vox. Either way, it sounded lovely, and it looked great, too. Interesting to see it used on the two songs that were more melodic and devoid of guitar abuse. Guess that Ed saves them for those occasions when he knows they won't come to harm!

I'm seeing them at MSG next week, can't wait!

Thom usually uses a Fireglo 330 on "Lucky", "The Bends", "The National Anthem", and a few other ones.

Ed also used to use a 360/12 in Jetglo, which he used on "Airbag" and "How To Disappear Completely".

I love these guys and have heard they're great live. Would love to see them sometime. What does the bass player play?

Precisions - a white '77 and a sunburst '72. On the first two albums/early tours, it was EBMM Stingrays and Sterlings.

I saw them live on the last tour they did and it was the best single band show I've ever been to. Thom was hamming it up for the camera, which made me think they were recording it for future release maybe. The usual Rics from Ed and Thom were in attendance and use too. Great show!

Here's "The Bends" from '97 - Ed on his 360FG and Thom on his 330FG:

From the same show, Ed with his 360/12JG on "Airbag":

And from '94, "The Bends", Ed on his 360MG/BT, which was stolen in late '95:

The Toronto Star had a pic of him with his 360 in the paper the next day, caught it as I was walking the hound at 6:30am and zoned right in when I saw the ric.

I think the band is great and always try to catch them when they are touring. However, I recently bought the '94 Astoria DVD and realised why I like them so much; when they put away their sequencers and gadgets and go for a straight out three guitar assault. Thom's voice was incredible back then.
Want that one...

Thom Yorke's new solo CD, "The Eraser", is very good. Just came out this week.

Greg,
I picked up the vinyl copy of it and yes, it's a really great album. I highly recommend it to fans of Kid A, one of my all time favorite albums.
Can't wait for Radiohead to leave EMI and go indie. Curious to see how they will self promote and distribute.
