I Will Always Be In Love With You
I Will Always Be In Love With You
Here's one. This song, recorded on either the Liverpool 1960 or Hamburg tape recorder session (depending on who you listen to - I think it's the Pool) , sounds to me, quite clearly, to be George singing. A mate of mine recently chose to debate the point, saying it's John.
I don't think so. Additionally, I believe it's little Macca playing the guitar solo on his Zenith (especially at the end). It sounds acoustic to me and I think George was already in some state of electrification - + it seems to be Paulie's rhythm to me. SOmething just Maccaish about it.
It's most easy to hear this on the Anthology DVD while the tape recorder runs. I have a nice cleaned copy of the sessions and I can post an mp3 of this track if anyone is interested.
I think it's George.
Cheers.

Sorry...I'm here on a Mac making mp3's with tons of diff't programs trying to get it sorted out and all....
If this doesn't work I'm open for suggestion. I've tried converting with Quicktime and Itunes, but neither seem to have taken
2:30 - Nope - this didn't work either...Anyone post mp3's here or do I need a host?
Ps - perhaps some kind moderator can edit out all my tries here....feel a bit silly....

http://www.yousendit.com allows uploading mp3s (100 % free, no need to register), the links work for a few days only...
Nothing will get you dead quicker than being deadly serious about yourself.
Thanks Stuart. I had the mp3 on my desk top and it loaded as a link (which I've since removed from the posts) and when clicked on, it opened a page of text gibberish, even though it was a QT file.
Well - it's HERE at least until I figure out what went wrong. Thanks for the site Sheena.

Thanks Paul & Brian. It IS George but my friend was so insistent?!??? My friend tought it sounded like John sounds on "Hello Little Girl" and the few others he sings definitively on this tape. No way.
Can anyone make out any developing guitar styles or playing on the solos/breaks? Think it's George? Paul? JOHN????

If it is George, my hat goes off to him. He was never a very expressive singer, and there are all sorts of interesting parts to this vocal. Especially since he was so young here, it is hard for me to see him singing with so much expression and character. At the end where he goes low, he has never done that in his entire professional career. He has never really done the bluesy vocals, either, because I don't think he had the true ability at vocals to pull it off convincingly.
Very tough to call, but I would say the ability and style more matches Lennon than Harrison.

In all the years that I have listened to John I have never heard him get that pitchy. George on the other hand tended to be a bit lazy about pitch at times, particularly near the end of his phrasing. The singer in this song exhibits that trait. Also John hardly ever let his scouser accent creep into his singing voice, whereas George did.
These reasons among others point to the singer being George IMO.
Please don't read into this explanation that I am being critical of George. He was an enormous talent and I have the deepest respect for his work.
