I like them too. The 1/2" spacing and toaster really do a lot toward that vintage look.

Ilan, the guard on the JG was made by chandler guitars. The one on the mapleglo comes from Pickguardian! It is very nice!

I found the horseshoe from the Italian ric dealer. It was the last one stock. I am really lucky! :D

Marcello: I sold an old style horse shoe pickup to an Italian guitar dealer about a year ago. Is yours the old type or a reissue?

I had my 4003MB routed out to put the hi-gain in the 1/2 inch vintage neck position. I had a new pickguard made for it as well. I like it a lot. Both basses, the JG and the MG look great. All the MG needs now is walnut wings and the vintage look would be complete.

Ted, the horsie is a NOS reissue, the one used on the V63 basses.
Randy, my mapleglo shows nice flames on the headstock wings, I think I like them more than some boring walnut! ;)

That's a nice piece of walnut. Really goes well with both the maple and the fingerboard.
If it ain't broke, break it, then fix it.

Yeah, those pics are great. That's what I'm going for. I want to move that pickup into the 60's position and order a new pickguard. It's a cosmetic thing.

I still like the walnut. And I'd hardly consider it boring! It adds to the mapleglo quite nicely. And I know I'm not the only one who believes that! It's one of the reasons I'd like to get a new 4003MG. But that's my opinion.

I searched through a ton of walnut at my local hardwood lumber dealer looking for good color and grain. The piece I finally selected was actually scrap from from their saw room. They had some long and narrow pieces that were too small for most uses except maybe for trim. They were perfect for walnut wings. I should have bought it all.

I was joking... however between flamed maple and walnut I prefer the first one. De gustibus non est disputandum.
