I don't have a vintage 330, John, and have never played one, so I'm not much use to you there.
Actually Howard, you kind of do. John wants a comparison of a 330 with a 21 fret neck vs. a 330 with a 24 fret neck. Besides the F-hole, your 1997 is a 330 with a 21 fret neck.
John, a neck position toaster on a 21 fret Rick is one of my absolute favorite guitar tones. It's not muddy in the slightest - it's well-defined but can still do the jazz thang.
