Beautiful! The price is probably not too far off considering the condition & year. It's a real shame it's never been really played (enjoyed)!

That mapleglo that sold today seemed like a decent price. Most of the 73's with goodies seem to be selling in the $2500 to $3500 range depending on condition. I think they are the most affordable of the collectible basses, but not for long.

On the '72, am I being finicky, or is the pickguard a little oversized? The lower "lobe" where the controls are is almost touching the binding. Perhaps a replacement? On the '73, the guard looks normal.

The body seems more narrow overall.

$5K, eh? Holy Smoke! That's one of the best I've seen...anyone know the sn# of this one?

Also the MG 73 that was won on ebay has a white switch-tip and nut, which is interesting (to me at least), there was some debate earlier as to whether this was a common practice with the tips.

Actually I just picked up a '75 4001 off of Gbase for $1200. I have to admit, it's not as mint as the one shown above, but it's still in great shape. The neck is flawless and the body is perfect except for some minor buckle rash. The only drawback is one of the previous owners tried some different tuners, so there are some extra holes...but I can live with that. It came with the original case (which is also in great condition) and the original registration card (with the serial number on it). The problem with spending $5 grand on a bass like the one listed, I'd be afraid to ever take it out of its case...but it is a beauty. I hope it goes to a good home.
