Please help me pick
Hi all, I'm lucky and a little confused. For several months, I've been gigging and recording with a new SWR 2x10c Workingman amp with a 1x15 SWR extension cab and my '83 4001 - Sounds pretty great, if not a little 'nice'. I just picked up a late 70's Peavey Mark III (400B series) head with a slim Fender cab with 2 new Jensen 'Mod' speakers. Great, unadorned sound. Both are plenty loud. I can only keep one (though I could keep the 1x15 cab if I sold the SWR combo). Here's what kind of music I play: http://www.myspace.com/managerschoice Anyone care to weigh in on which I should stick with? Thanks!
Jeff,
Yeah, I hear that. I swore I'd never own another Peavey, but I've seen a number of guys using this particular head. Truth be told, they sound somewhat similar, though they both have 'extra' features that can mold the sound in different ways, both good. The Peavey is a little noisy, but gives an honest/raw bass tone, whereas the SWR has more of a deep and focused sound. I guess it's all about personal preferences, but just wanted to get a sense of what you all thought.

I have 3 bass amps ... all of them are ampeg ... b3, b2 and b2r ... then I have 8 different speaker cabs to pick from ...
if you are on a budget Behringer or Crate will get the job done ... Peavey works as well ...
the right bass amp is the one you can afford, it will fit in your car and you like the sound ...
