Rickenbacker and Guitar Center spat?

Post by soundmasterg »

Hello. I was wondering if anyone (John Hall or others) can clarify this statement I received at the local GC recently? I asked if they were going to get any Rickenbackers in because I didn't see any in the store, and he said GC stopped carrying Rickenbackers because they had trouble with RIC honoring the warrenties? I was a bit surprised by this because I know that RIC has an excellent reputation. Sounded like a "phib" to me. Any comment? Thanks!

This quote was posted by John Hall on 04/30/03 in another thread, "...Guitar Center which now has several hundred units in their distribution center inventory with many hundreds more in the pipeline."

Sounds like the person who made that statement to you doesn't really know what he was talking about.

There had been some "issues" between the "store" version of the GC-empire and RIC over the last couple of years but it would appear that things have been "fixed". During the whole thing MF still seemed to offer selected RIC instruments and as far as I know GC and MF are different heads of the same monster.

Gary and R.C. are both correct; the issues from the last few years between RIC and GC were resloved, and the salesman was either misinformed or was making things up.

Rickenbackers sold at GC ARE covered by the normal RIC warranty, as long as the instrument is not returned to the GC store within 30 days (and therefore, the typical GC 30/30 policy is void on Rics).

I think I worded that correctly. JH?

How come I've seen stickers on the Ric guitars @ Gtr Ctr that read: "Non-Returnable" and it sports the "RIC" logo.....???
"Take the RIC... Leave the cannoli."

We have no issues with Guitar Center, I don't think they do with us, and we've never used/provided such a sticker.

Our relationship with them is currently very cordial and large amounts of goods are flowing regularly to their distribution center and are available to any of their stores that want them.

Does this mean I'll be able to see a Montezuma Brown 381/12 in the flesh here soon?

I might could go for one of those...

Thank you all. Makes me wonder why GC hires idiots that spout **** like this all the time. This was the store in Beaverton, Oregon if anyone was interested. And there weren't any RIC's in the store at all. Maybe their manager there doesn't like RICS or something.

Hi Greg,

I didn't know you were "out here" too.

That would be the closest GC to me too. I think the guitar area manager at that store is an arrogant twit.

I went over to the GC in Clackamas last week (had never been there before).

Apple Row downtown carries RIC - I got a 370/12MG there last summer.

I visited a GC for the first time last month. I really enjoyed being followed throughout the store by the guy who greeted me. I swear he was never more than 15 feet away at any given moment and pretended that he was ignoring me. He really made me feel special. No need for me to return there! I'm glad I have other options!

Hi Gary. nice to know someone else from around here! The manager at the Beaverton store used to work at Apple music, and Apple is so bad i refuse to go in there anymore. I prefer pretty much any store besides Apple or GC, but a lot of the ones I like only have used gear. It would be cool to meet up sometime and check out each other's Rickenbackers Gary. If you're interested, email me.
