I'm sort of in the same boat as Gordon here. I had some store credit at Guitar Center so I picked up an AC-30CC, with the Wharfdale speakers (I didn't notice enough of a difference in the store to justify the $600 extra for the Blues).
I had previously owned a British-made AC-30 and it seemed to have a lot more headroom then this amp does. It just doesn't seem to be clean enough for me.
Obviously, since i've only had it for a day, i'm going to see if I can continue to tailor it to suit my needs. But if not, i'm going to take full advantage of GC's 30-day return policy and go for the crystalline cleans of the Twin Reverb.
Newbie Vox AC30cc2x owner - very clean sound ?

John, I'm definitely looking forward to your report as I'm about to pull the trigger on an AC-30CC head and an empty cab from North Coast. Thinking I'll fill the cab with either Weber Blue Dogs or Eminence Red Fangs.
I'm thinking that the extra wattage capabilities of those speakers could impart more "cleanliness" over the Wharfdales or Celestion Blues, and still get close to the tone of "Blues" at a lower cost. But if the amp itself stays dirty low on the volume knob, then I don't know. I sure as heck don't want Twin Reverb "clean" at that kind of volume they get to, but I also don't want a lot of dirt that starts at a 1.5 - 3 setting on the volume knob either.

Okay, I think I found *the* tone.
360 Carl Wilson w/ toasters. Master volume on 10, with the top boost volume control barely on one. I reached gig volume and it was still nice and clean with no breakup. Strummed chords were perfectly jangly. I think it's the pickups - they're low output and perfect for this amp.
Steve, I was actually considering the head/4x12 cab over this combo yesterday, as I thought the tone was somewhat better. In the end, i'd rather be gigging with a 2x12 combo than a 4x12 cab AND a head. But if you're so inclined, I really liked the "stack". It also looked really nice.
In my experience, Twin Reverb amps tend to be harsh sounding and not very jangly when strumming full chords - though for Byrds-style arpeggios, they can't be beat.
It looks like this amp may work for me after all.

yes, a previous post mentions that toasters do well with the
CC2. Mine is a '90 360/12WB with high gains and i really don't
want to change the guitar by subing in toasters. Also, i really
like the JangleBox, best pedal ever created IMHO ...to me
it sounds best when the gain and attack are around the
2 o'clock position ...too much signal i think for the CC2 to stay
clean. Appears that if you use toasters and no effects the
CC2 will be clean ...otherwise if you want clean, you may need
an amp with more headroom
