Farewell 4001v63

Post by squirebass »

I guess the deadline has passed for orders to be accepted for the 4001v63 and other reissue series Ricks. These are great basses and I hate to see them go, but I look forward with great anticipation to what Mr. Hall has in store for us as far as new products. Anyone want to venture an opinion as to what will be unveiled at the NAMM show, and what you would like to see?

I will miss the option of a 4001V63, if I ever purchase another Rickenbacker bass, maybe it will be available again as the limited reissue line, when that time comes. Farwell 4001V63 a true work of art. I look forward to what new stuff is in the works.. Maybe a vintage style 4001V(2001) five-string or a five and six-string version of the 4004CII. That would be cool!

I hate to see the V 63 go as well as I never got the dough together in time to buy one. I know its out of the question but I would love to see , and have the money to buy, a 4005 V65 in fireglo or Mapleglo ... Now that would be a beauty !!!

Robert: Rickenbacker is in the business of selling as many quality instruments as they can. While I have no idea what new models they will be introducing in February at NAMM, I am reasonably confident that whatever they do introduce has to be as good as what they have discontinued. So ring out the old, ring in the new!
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Goodbye 4001V63, hello 4001C64.

Shadow Kat, you could be right.
A bass with reissue type horseshoe pickup is not currently available from Ric. I can't see this being the case for long....
Since I love speculating on this subject too, I'll go for a reissue 4001s64 at NAMM then later in the year a 4001v65 or there abouts....After the 4003 is discontinued.

Why would RIC discontinue the 4003? I've asked a few times (since I've never played a 4001v63), what is the difference between the 4003 and the other vintage models (like the 4001v63)? Mark the MD stated the wood was the same, so there must be a difference between the pickups? How much of a difference? Thanks.

I think that is a good question. Since I don't own a 4003 anymore, I can't really say. I used to have one at about the time I bought my first 4001v63 and I would say my 4003 seemed to have less tonal range than the v63 did. I own an old 4001 which is really rad (very trebly at any and all settings) and it doesn't have the range of sounds that a v63 does(but it WILL get that Chris Squire tone, which is quite important to me!). My opinion of the v63 is that it is actually a very versitle Rick, meaning that you can get it to sound Squirish, or more like some other types of bass, like a Fender or Gibson, etc...

Why would Ric discontinue the 4003? Don't know but Mr Hall mentioned this some time back on A.G.R.
I have a 4003 and a 4001s with toaster & horseshoe and I have to agree with Squirebass, the 4003 doesn't have the response that the 4001s has.
I did a few experiments and found that the toaster was the softest output then the higains with the horseshoe being loudest. Best tone to my ears is from the horseshoe but you can get lots of variation depending where you play.
Hope this helps.
