I do remember Lennon declaring that the Beatles were "bigger than Jesus Christ" That was in August of 1966, if my memory serves me, which it often doesn't.
But I don't remember him saying anything about actually being, indeed, Jesus Christ.

Actually, if I recall correctly, it was not even really a declaration. It was an off the cuff comment made in the spirit of wonder by John.
John it seems, found it incredible that they were adored by so many fans world wide. He was a bit taken aback at how his JC comment was perceived.

What Lennon said, in an interview with a British journalist (Maureen Cleeve?), was that the Beatles were more POPULAR (to young people) than Jesus Christ (was at that time). It was the American press and the Bible belters that took that one statement out of context and turned it around against the group.
John Lennon NEVER declared that he was Jesus.

Brammy, you seem to be one of the biggest Beatles experts and always come up with a wealth of information. Where do people GET these video snippets to post on YouTube, specifically things like the David Frost interview?
I can understand outtakes and bootleg songs getting out, but how do people find these video clips from the years before home video recording?

According to the Book "The Beatles - The Biography" by Bob Spitz, Lennon called a meeting at Apple. The other three showed up as well as few others in their circle, and Lennon announced he had come to realize he was Jesus Christ. The others apparently took it in stride, not batting an eyelash, chalking it up to John's massive LSD intake.

I belong to the largest Beatles Collector's Group on Yahoo, and Bob Spitz' biography on the Beatles was discussed at length.
Spitz did not know any of the Beatles, or their inner circle. His biography consists of second hand information, and is full of glaring inaccuracies. Anything Spitz says on the subject of the Beatles should be taken with a grain of salt - He has shown that he's more interested in putting out a book that sells, rether than making sure his "facts" are correct.

Well, any book on the fabs has to be taken with a tab of, er... grain of salt.
Though I have heard of Lennon's exterme lows (in times of serious self doubt during Beatles years, friends telling him "no...listen, look, you've done this and this"), as well as huge swings up in the ego dept. Probably goes for all of them to some degree.

Thaks for the compliment, but I dont think its deserved. I have a pretty extensive boot record collection that goes back to the early 70's, but as for the videos on Youtube, I didn't post them there (and all I did was do a simple screen capture to get the pictures). Just do a Youtube search on "Beatles" and sit back for hours and hours of viewing pleasure.
Speaking of Beatles videos, I do have a whole slew of them that I collected in the 80-90's. I wish I could convert them to DVD easily. Anyone know how to do this without spending a whole lot of $ ?

Some interesting stuff here as always, Brian and Kris correct about what Lennon said in relation to JC but in relation to the Bob Spitz thing, never heard of the guy but if you analysis how Lennon appeared in late sixties he did appear to take on a Facial resemblance to how JC has always been depicted apart from the glasses of course.
