Geoff Emerick in the audience at Eggmen show

Post by iamthebassman »

Yes, it was a bit intimidating when we were informed that Geoff Emerick was in the audience. As you know, NAMM was here in Austin over the weekend. We were playing a rooftop bar right across the street from the convention center NAMM was at.
To make matters even more interesting, at least for me, while scanning the crowd mid-song, I spot Chuck Rainey staring at me. Talk about pressure. He left towards the end of the evening, I asked the club manager who confirmed it was indeed Chuck.

Ronn: This is off-topic, but I was wondering if you have seen Neil Innes' new website. He has chords and lyrics to most of his tunes covering his Bonzos, Python, solo, and Rutles projects. Too cool!

Mike, he was at NAMM to give a Q&A session.

RZ, yes, I have seen that. Too bad it was AFTER we'd worked out the Rutles tunes. Speaking of, OUCH! is opening for The Eggmen this Saturday, in Austin.

Ronn, Do you play "Revolution", and if you do, is it the video version (fast) with the "ah-oom-shooby-do-wop" backgrounds? I love that version, though I've only heard it while watching the video.

Two thumbs up from me on Geoff's book, BTW.

Jerry, yep, that's the version we play. Goes over much better with a live audience than the slower version.

Yes, that was on The Ed Sullivan Show as a live feed from the UK. You can probably view it on youtube.com

It's the backing track from the studio version where you're hearing piano. The vocals are live.

It's cool, George is on his Les Paul, I believe. They all look good. It rocks, except when the keys come in, the camera has no where to go!

I'd only seen it in theaters, but at least they had the sound cranked!

BTW, Ronn, do you perform Helter Skelter?
Just had it on, and the backing vocals are soo cool, though they could be louder!

I guess I'll have to attend one of your shows!

this may seem like a teeny weeny picky item, but what the hell.... notice that in this video George has taken off the "treble/bass" plastic disk from his Les Paul. This minor mod greatly improves the look of the LP (imho) and is the first thing I did to my first LP-style guitar (which was actually an Ibanez Deluxe '50er LP copy... dang, I wish I hadn't sold that thing)
