Rickenbackers in UK - help

Post by thischarmingman »

Hiya!

First post from a long-time reader here, so i'll try to keep it short 'n' sweet.

I'm an Australian travelling to the UK in August and am hoping to find my dream guitar (a jetglo 350v63) while I'm over there.

Slim as my chances may be - i'll bet they're better than my odds of finding one here in Oz, what with the distributor debacle and all Image

Have any of you Rickenbacker fans in the UK seen a 350v63 lately? Or do you know where the Rick dealers that i must check out while I'm there are? I'll be in London, Liverpool and Manchester predominately, but also Chelmsford (Essex) for a few days. But I'll travel anywhere, if need be...

help?! ta.

Hi Gavin! Welcome from another Oz Rick nut! There is a 350v63 JG on US ebay at present with worldwide shipping:

Just a thought......

I'm picking up a Montezuma Brown 350v63 when I hit San Francisco in August, so we'll be twins of sorts. Image

Tell us where in Oz you are, Gavin.

Check out Mike Smith at www.ricsrus.com He's not an authorised dealer, but loves his Rics & only deals in Rickenbacker gtrs. He hosted the first UK confluence earlier in the year. A great chap to do business with. He might be able to find you one.
'Rickenbacker'...what a name! After all these years, it still thrills me.

You might find it's cheaper to buy one at home, even with the distributer problem. The UK is pretty pricey for just about every thing. Another option could be a US seller who can ship to the UK for much less than to Aus, as a long you can avoid British taxes(being a tourist). This obviously wouldn't work for a new instrument from an authorised dealer, but 2nd hand US + shipping would probably be cheaper than 2nd here.

One of the best shops in Southend is called Honky Tonk Music. My 64 bass came from there back in the late 70's. If your in the area, call (01702) 619615 and check them out.
