Special bass version for 75th anniversary?

Post by squirefan01 »

I have seen comments sprinkled around here about the 75th anniversary of Ric (Happy Anniversary!!), and people wondering about special colors and giveaways.

I am seriously looking at a 2006 4003, but if there is going to be any kind of special 4003 for this anniversary, I'd love to get one. So here are my questions...

Is there definitely going to be a special 4003 version?

Is there a date of an announcement?

How many will be made?

What do I have to do to get one?

When do I get on some kind of list for one, and how do I do that?

Thanks!

There have been tantalizing hints of a limited color run but I do not believe a new/special 4003 is in the works.

I wouldn't mind being wrong but I don't think I am.

FWIW, I recently purchased a 2006 4003 BBR and it's without question the best Rick I've ever played. So much so that I have almost forgot that I have a 4004L BBR on order. No doubt Ben misses my periodic questioning.....

Musician's Friend has the 2006 4003 in midnight blue in stock and I'm very tempted to pull the trigger on it. I would rather have a special edition though if there is going to be one.

I have read here about the color bleed problems with midnight blue. I hope that's an issue that's in the past. I love that color.

Greg, it appears that RIC have reissued the 1996 as the Anniversary guitar.

As far as the 4003 goes, they have also added a vintage pickup selector push/pull pot, changed back to walnut headstock "wings" and are now making a much slimmer neck profile a la the 4001C64. Also apparently there is a special, limited edition colour coming along (anxiously awaiting that announcement Mr. JH Image)

Never say never about a "new" bass though. Personally I think the 4003 is a really good bass for the most part, just hoping they'll address the question of modifying/replacing the bridge/tailpiece.

BTW the "new" MID is far and away the best MID ever imho: deep, dark, and brooding blue. Nice.

NO MORE BLUE!

They've already said there are no plans for another blue.

I look as the "Special finish" as a clue. It was either John or Ben that said "think metalic"

I think they may be hinting toward the return of the Horseshoe pickup as an option.

Or if you think in terms of the direction they seem to be heading, "Wings", "C64 profile neck", "Vintage cap selector", perhaps their just going to reintroduce the 4001 Deluxe like they used to make.

S option on 4003 basses. Either that or offer the option of having a regular, non-reverse headstock on a C64. That would be an instant straight-arrow path to my bank account.
