Anything more than full contact by the end of the tailpiece is lift.

Refer the problem to RIC customer service. They and they alone can address warranty issues.

Hey David,

I have a lefty 4001C64 that I've had for 16 months and the tailpiece looks exactly the same as yours. The tailpiece is the same as the day she arrived. I have Pyramid Gold's on it and I believe this is the normal design for these basses. I will email John Hall and ask him directly. Please email some more pics of yours to me. If you like, I can email some pics of mine to you.

actually that amount of lift is only a cosmetic problem ... if it were an older bass I would say add 2 extra screws or get a hipshot replacement ... but since it is a c64 I would get in contact with customer support at RIC and pursue your options ...

A couple of mine have "cosmetic lift". I've never paid much attention to it.

JH described the lift on both my 4001CS and V63FG as "shear tension" or something like that, and not actuall tailpiece lift. My '78 4001 has a touch of it too. None of them appear to have moved one iota in many moons. Good!
