I wonder how distorted this view of John will be?

I am always skeptical of these things as you can probably tell. At least to the point where I can see it for myself in context of what I know about his life.

From what I heard, it's supposed to be really good. We'll see.

David Leaf is a class act. "The Studio that brought you Farenheit 911" is not. This may be a tough call for me.

David Leaf has done some great work on Brian Wilson and he is a very good story teller.

I, for one, would never knowingly pay to see anything with commentary by Geraldo in it, much less that of G. Gordon Liddy, who in those days, of course, was seen as being on the same plane as Nixon, if not lower. Between G Gordon and Geraldo, though, Geraldo is a rung even further down. Who else is in this, Springer?

I watched the trailer for it. It doesn't appear that it contains anything that would be new news to those of us on this Beatle site, but I suppose to a youngster it COULD be a good synopsis of that period.

But I agree that if its from "The Studio that brought you Farenheit 911", we can only hope that its not the same hodgepodge of deliberate lies and distortions that F-911 was.

It's the nuggets of truth behind that hodgepodge that concern me more.

I trust neither the stubbled, pseudo-blue-collar buffoon who wrote and presented 9/11, nor the well-groomed, silver-spoon frat boy buffoon who is its most significant subject.

In the end, the former will be a minor footnote in most history texts, if he even makes it into them.

My comments on the latter will not find a place in this forum at this time.

Yer not just sayin' that 'cause I'm back, are ya, Perfessor?

Not only was G. Gordon Liddy on the same plane as Nixon, I guarantee you they were free-basing in the same sumptuous toilet...

There is a great quote from Liddy, though, in someone's book or documentary I saw or read recently.

The story goes, when he was still one of the plumbers he was making a presentation to then Attorney General Mitchell, who he called "General."

Liddy's pitch involved a plan to hire some call girls whose job it was to lure some Democratic politicos into compromising postions on a houseboat during their convention, which I believe was in San Diego.

Supposedly Mitchell found the whole thing a bit far fetched. Upon Mitchell's reaction, Liddy was said to reply "General, these are the finest girls in Baltimore."

Perhaps this would have been a great tagline for the F-911 trailer:

"A hodgepode of deliberate lies and distortions about an administration's deliberate lies and distortions."

Glenn, Liddy was also behind a plan (allegedly) to obstruct the HVAC units in the convention hall in San Diego so the hall would heat up and the democrats would look like sweaty pigs. The best and brightest huh?

Brian, it reminds me of the great Felt quote in All The President's Men; "Forget all you've heard in the media about these people. The fact is, these guys just aren't very bright."

Brian...don't forget the rest of the plan: a stink-bomb under the podium, M-80's in all the toilets, a 'mickey' in Ed Muskie's drink and a 'wedgie' for Thomas Eagleton...

I believe the 'best and brightest' phrase was applied by the media to JFK's cabinet...but there we're talkin' MacNamara...

I don't know if 'best' holds any more water for Kennedy's men than 'brightest' does for Nixon's...

Remember the CIA plot under Kennedy to slip something in Castro's drink so his beard would fall out. That is one of my favorites. I guess they all have had their moments. Heck! Even Thomas Jefferson was paying newspaper editors to write bad things about John Adams.

And someone tried to assassinate George Washington by hiding ground-up tomatoes in his food...
