Actually, at that point I think they were well into the process of getting burned out. I hate to be the one to say it, but George's voice sounds pretty bad in that clip.... it breaks at one point and overall it sounds flat and lackluster. That one was from the Japan tour, right?

But yes... a very cool "new style" 360. Ric's best guitar (imho).

Yeah that clip of George singing "If I Needed Someone" is painful to listen to. It is obvious to me that there weren't proper monitors for him to hear his own voice. And with all the noise in the stadium it has always amazed me that any of them stayed on pitch. Just listen to the original Ed Sullivan broadcasts and hear John and Paul going off pitch. Besides, George was never the most confident solo vocalist. Regardless, I've always loved his voice.

That 360/12 is the one that was given to him by the radio station and then stolen shortly after this clip was filmed.

yup, thats what happened to it... and it hasn't ever shown up to my knowledge.

Ric made a great design improvement going from the old style 360 to the "new" style that George used here. But then they renumbered the old 360 to 330 thereby dooming generations to mucho confusion.

The 360 is a deluxe version of the 330, with triangular fret markers and binding. there are old style 360's that have been made through the years.

hmmm.. I thought I had that right... can someone explain the history of the 330 - 360 styling? I know this topic has been covered before.

I had thought that the 360 started out looking with the POINTED styling like this

... and then the 360 was changed to the ROUNDED styling like this

but now if you wanted to buy a guitar similar to the old POINTED 360 styling you would purchase a 330. ???

Any help in sorting out my possible confusion is greatly appreciated.

There are 360OS (Old Style) guitars. There have also been 360WB's throughout many years, which have binding front and back.

Kent, I was being sarcastic. I think they were fired at this point. I think that the Compleat Beatles uses that performance to make just that point.

I believe that was the afternoon show. They played an evening show as well and it went a bit better. That subdued crowd definitely didn't hide their "multitude of sins" as they themselves have admitted to.

otay... sorry for taking you too literally... I know you know your beatles. Yup.... at the risk of daring in any way to compare myself with the fabs (I only wish), I can see (based on my band playing 40 gigs last year) that they were very burned out and that "just another concert" was a drag no matter how much adoration they received. It must have been a strange existance for them during that time. For me, the "REAL" beatles were 61-63...... ooooo. I think it may be time for another trip in the 'ole time machine.

Now... what about that 330/360 thang?

ok, ok.... here is what I can find out about the history of the 330 and 360:

Before '64 the 360 as we know it today (rounded design) did not exist. Instead, there were two versions of the sharp edged 330 shape....: a 330 thin semi hollowbody and 360 deluxe thin semi hollowbody, both of which had the same body shape, but the deluxe model had white binding, front and back, bound fingerboard, and triangle neck inlays.

Then in '64 the body of the 360 was changed to the one we see today, ie rounded styling and binding in the back only. While this guitar became the 360 we currently know and love, various terms were used to describe the old 360 deluxe (teh one with the 330 body). These included "360OS" (old style) at first, then "360WBBS" (white binding both sides), and lter later 360WB" (white binding).

WB stands for with binding.
