I feel better now.

Wow. That is a beautiful bass. I haven't had such a good first impression of a Ric since Steve Cooper's BlueBurst shots.

Actually, no Bob!

After stringing it up recently I remembered there was a reason I left it in the case for 15 years and just played my old white bass!

It has a huge thick neck for a 60's bass. Unlike any other I have seen from this period. Club like, very much like a 2000 bass I had. The fretboard radius feels flatter, but I think that's just due to me being used to much thinner necks in relation to my playing style.

It has had the usual neck problems and the action is very high due to the 60's headstock angle, and even after I put some 40-95 strings on it, it was still way too much for my liking. To think that it used to have 45-105 Roto's back in the 80's...

It needs a very good sorting out, and that will be the next task.

Meanwhile, it's back in the case again....

That's a DAMN shame... and a shock considering everything I've read about 60's 4001 necks...

Andrew, it looks much better with strings. It looked to naked without them. Too bad on it's playability. I'm sure you'd have some takers if you were to sell it.
