Begging your pardon, but an opaque black would obscure completely anything under it.

Perhaps you mean translucent black?

Anyway, I could not think of a less appropriate color for a Rickenbacker guitar than a black/silver burst.

Even green would be nicer.

Oops...did I just say that???

Trans Black over silver huh?
The Oakland Raider fans would love it...

Would the color (not the guitar) look like this?

I was answering Clive's post, Paul, and I think we're in agreement. Clive asked if black over silver would give a metallic finish. I said that black over silver would not give a metallic finish if the black coat was opaque. It would simply obscure the silver.

And I can think of a few colours worse than green for a guitar. Cheeto-glo, anyone? How about Pepto-glo? That old transparent green (NOT the new, "emerald one") that Guild used back in the day has a lovely, rich quality to it. (Unfortunately, some of those vintage Guilds have aged almost to a transparent black. Weird.)

Why does it have to contain black pigmentation at all? A 75th anniversary is normally represented by silver. So a very nice shade of silver with suitable appointments may be what RIC has in mind.

I am just going to wait this one out.

I was thinking more of the result than the process. I had in mind a color similar in effect to the metallic Midnight Blue, but in the Jetglo family, and figured you might achieve a similar result from the same process.

Silver is 25th anniversary, diamond is 75th as has been pointed out a few times before. Wrong track anyway.

I imagine building a guitar out of diamond would be somewhat costly. Anyone know what Zirconiaglo would look like? Image

John, did you see my question about availability in UK for these models? Can I order one through Rosetti?

Hmm, can I renew my old post about having a dark translucent green over a metallic color? How about calling it Platinumforestglo?

Interesting from Paul re the "green" hint - is this another wind up?

After the happy accident colour comment from Ben I had mentioned "Blueburst with an Amberglo top coat - Greenglo?" in the colour spec thread on the Bass forum. But didn't think that it would be glamorous enough for a 75th, unless the colour comes out as turquoise burst that is?

Just don't call it "metallic black, as I've occasionally heard folks describe colors to me. That seems like an oxymoron. To my thinking, the moment a metallic or pearlescent or mica powder is added to black, it ceases to be black anymore, and becomes, in the most neutral way of putting it, deep charcoal metallic. Then, more powder added renders it a lighter and lighter shade of metallic gray, which can then be tinted slightly to give it a warm or cool tone if desired.

I once had a very troglodytic Hell's Angel describe the color he wanted his bike painted as "metallic black". I expressed the above observation to him. He gave me the thousand yard stare and said, "no man, I want metallic black".

He got metallic black. I'm a realist, after all.

How about Yellow Book Glo? They're looking to branch out.
