There's a lot of really cool places to hang out in the area that are a pretty cheap cab ride away, especially if you double or triple up in the cabs..Costa Mesa and Newport Beach are around 10 minutes away to the South, the Irvine Spectrum to the Southeast, and to the North about 20 minutes is the Orange Block, and Downtown Fullerton, all with restaurants and bars aplenty!

When I went to school in Fullerton, many years ago, there was the CoCo's restaurant that I learned many years later is where Adolph would often travel for lunch during his retirement years.

Not exactly fine dining but it's certainly Rick historic. I bet it's still there.

Hey there taxman. I've been wrestling with that one myself. I really want to take the stereo turq/goldguards/ovenknob/toaster 330/12 aka the "J Dog guitar." I will probably ship it to my friend in LA, pick it up Thursday night and hang out with him that night.

I think on Sunday (no confluence... empty daytime) I would like to drive along the beach and see the cliffs and whatnot. Just like where they laid Donnie to rest in "The Big Lebowski." And of course see some California guitar shops.

I'm sure there are plenty of stand-up good people here who will let you ship your guitar to them. I know some others are already planning to do just that. That is what I love about this forum.

Flying with it will probably be a huge hassle. Even with a proper flight case, I wouldn't trust it to the baggage handlers on the tarmac, God bless 'em.

John Biscuti and I have talked about splitting a rental car (since we're two of the few 'kids' here) and having a good time. I hopefully will get to meet him the weekend before in NYC. I'll be there with my group from work for some much needed r&r.

The drummer in my band used to be stationed in San Diego and tells me loads of good things about the area, including Carlsbad. Apparently I need to order the ultimate cheeseburger from Jack in the Box. We don't have those here in Florida.

I am worried I will not want to leave California. It seems like my kind of place.

So now... everybody please tell me, should I bother with bringing the 330/12, or maybe the 380L PZ, one of the 60's tulips, or maybe a nice Squier Strat? ha ha ha just joshin'!!!!!

I think Melibee and I should jam out on some JC-style praise tunes. We'll call it "Totally Turquoise."

And I must, I repeat, MUST have a beer (which means two or three or ten) with Aitch. Can't wait to meet that character!

Cheers, everybody!
Can't wait to meet you all!

Much love from breezy FL, the J Dog

P.S.: If you are really bored and want to see the 330/12 I am talking about, check out www.fullliquordancers.com/pics.htm and scroll towards the bottom. Don't be confused, there is a TUR 360/12 too, but below that is a good photo of the 330/12 in question.

Shari and I will be in around noon on Wednesday and will have a rental car. I understand there is a great guitar store in Carlsbad called Buffalo Bros., supposed to have a huge acoustic collection. If anyone is into nature and hiking, etc., there is some really nice places to check out. Mount Wilson in the San Gabriel Mtns. has a wonderful view looking down on the city along with some very nice astronomy related things like the 100" Hooker (Howard!) telescope. Not far from Long Beach is Royal Palms State Park with great rocky shores, Pt. Fermin lighthouse and the Korean Freedom Bell, not to mention the Queen Mary at Long Beach, highly recommended. For those into fishy things, if it is still there, is the Cabrillo Marine Museum in San Pedro. Near Pasadena is the city of San Marino which has The Huntington Library that has incredible gardens and the library and museum are no slouch either.

There are lots of great things to do in L.A. without getting too touristy.

Graham,

It is my understanding that Mike will be in Honolulu during that week and will be flying in on Sunday, just in time for the HOB show.

Jason - either a tulip or a 380. I have always been intrigued by the 380's.

Also, glad to hear you're a Lebowski freak like I am - even had a small "Lebowski-fest" here last month!

Howard, what sort of bowling goes on over there in Oz? Is it 10-pin or 5-pin?
