Photo Compression
Someone had posted a link to a website that compressed photo's. I was wondering if anyone knew which site that was. I thought I had bookmarked it, but apparently not.

Hm. Yousendit is a different feature, Scott. It's used for transferring large files (mp3s, etc).
The link you're searching for could be this one: http://www.jpegwizard.com/
(albeit personally, i haven't yet figured out how to get a photo out
)

I did a trial version of the full blown jegwizard and liked it enough to pay for a download. The trial version uses watermarks I believe to keep you from stealing it. One thing I really like is the ability to crop a big picture into two smaller pictures,adjust your compression and post side by side, and it looks like one picture when uploaded.(see post on general board about "rockin the B/T" for an example)

Here's another example, I took this picture that I had to crop previously to fit the forum guidelines because it was 648 X 460 69K bytes. I rotated it 90 degrees and cropped it into two separate left and right pictures with the split right at the back edge of the pickguard.

And another thing- If you go to do this and you preview your post it will show the two pictures on top of each other, don't freak out, as long as your attachments are side by side before your preview, the final post will also be side by side. Don't let the preview fool you, I'm not sure why it does this.

Mark: While you can indeed get around the intent of the photo restriction, there are two potential side effects.
To begin, this practice will inevitably lead to situations in which the photos push the frame aside and the scroll-bar is needed to read and view posts. This is a nuisance for readers and unsightly to my eyes, and I would then have to remove the post altogether.
Further, the restriction is in place to begin with for a reason. Increased "photo doubling" will of course increase the bandwidth and will become a problem for the administrator.
I applaud your initiative, however, I just thought I would mention these issues as I will have to deal with them. So if things go missing you will at least have a heads up. As they say, be careful what you wish for.

Peter I might do an occasional oversize photo in the future, but I'll definitely not make a habit of it, I understand where your coming from.

Hmmmm. Scratch my earlier comment. I won't be posting big pics.
Thanks for the explanation Peter.

I like the idea, in principle, and I appreciate Mark's solution.
I am not saying don't use the technique, but rather when it is really necessary.
