Trouble accessing board

Post by hieronymous »

Since this morning, the link I usually use to access the board hasn't been working:

[url=http://archives.rickresource.com/oldatt ... opics.html[/url]

If I go to the Rickresource page, then I can get in. But clicking on the "Rickenbacker Forum" link results in the same error message:

"Not Found - The requested URL /discus/messages/board-topics.html was not found on this server."

You are probably aware of this, but as I hadn't seen any mention of it I thought I should bring it up.

Same here. And when i click on "The Rickenbacker forum" link right at the top of the thread, it says the same... not a very big trouble, but strange...

It looks like he's now using a script instead of hard code to access things. This will have the same effect:

I hope it's not from all the bandwidth I've been sucking up with my posted pics, Peter is probably going to send me a bill soon. Image

The new link (from JH) works, but the link at the top left of the forum itself is still "broken."

Peter has a lot of pages to update the links on, looks like. Until he gets the new link page to all places, we will have these dangling references. I don't envy him.

This is just one complication with making big but necessary changes to a decent size or bigger website. He has moved up a big step in his coding, gaining versatility and speed. The coding changover and all the "hanging chads" are the rub until all are caught.

Gee, it's getting curiouser and curiouser - back to 2002!
No, that's not a complaint, it's just very interesting to see.

Yeah, please don't get the wrong idea - I'm not complaining - well, maybe a little bit! But I realize the magnitude of the job, and just wanted to point to a problem spot.

Thanks for all your hard work Peter!

From this point forward, the best way to access the Rickenbacker Forum is http://www.forum.rickresource.com or perhaps more simply http://forum.rickresource.com.

There are other ways, however, in this world of "call forward" and "overnight migration without warning", you will have your best result with this link.

This way, whatever changes I am doing "in the boiler room" will be my headaches and hopefully not yours as well. I do apologize for this bother.

Exactly right Erik, at least in theory. Your post was mildly amusing. Be sure to get your Forum Code right though.

I always use this one as you don't have that access strip or whatever you call it on the left side taking up space, but when I try to go back today to get to a different topic I lose it and get this page cannot be found bla bla bla, and then have to enter again by using "my favorites".

Peter, it appears now that neither "Last Day" or "Last Week" links work as of this posting, instead they give this error message:
File [5-tree.txt] has zero length in reading for [read_tree]!

Please contact Peter McCormack if this problem persists.
