Say hello to my little friend

Post by inhuien »

Hi y'all,

Wanted to share these wee pics of my 82 4003 and say sorry for not doing before now. She in good nick generally apart from a mighty bit of belt rash that happened on recording session many moons ago.

Nice yellowing there. That always makes the FG look better.

The FG's from that period had more amber tones in them.
The color chart from the 1980 catalogue shows this shade.
Every one was whining for the pinker FG's. Hmmm.
Very nice indeed Image

John: Do you think the difference is more the clear coat than the FG pigments? JH has said that the color of FG has changed very little since it was introduced. New ones always looked a little pink to me. My first one was a brand new FG '75 4001. At the time it was quite pink looking.

Nice lookin' bass, Mark.

Every FG 4001 or 4003 that I've seen from around 1981 to 1984 looks more yellow in the center than other years to me. More like a Sunburst than a Fireglo. I wouldn't think it was the clear coat, but I'm no expert.

Thanks for the kind words one and all, she sure is a hand full. Even after all this time I still have to pinch myself to prove I'm not dreaming when I pick her up.

And we got the Bass forum back!!!!!!!
