so damn good!
i have been toying with playing guitar the last 6 months and it just doesnt click. i cannot fret and change chords that easily. well after playing only bass for close to 30 years that may seem normal but I "know" i wont get it. i`ll be able to play a few things but it wont be pretty. anyways
i find myself i a local store today and i am playing a fender P bass special with p bass p/u`s and a jazz p/u.
not bad sounding, kind of cool actually. but the neck wasnt that friendly to me. which is odd because for the first 10 years of playing it was on a P.
a little while ago a friend stoped by and was playing my sg and i pulled out the Ric.

I'm odd with necks. I love my Laredo, which is fairly similar to a P, at least regarding the width. I like my J bass...
Lately the 4001, which in my impression is in between the two other basses, has not been doing it for me. But that just may be I don't like the strings on it.
But Ricks are FAR better basses than Fenders IMO. I'm sure that might get some disagreement elsewhere, but no one is going to change my mind.
But that doesn't mean I don't like Fenders...

Above e-mail is inactive. try ed_ardzinski@**** where **** is Hotmail.com or Yahoo.com. I tend to see things inthe hotmail box quicker...
I think the old Fenders are great basses, also like Gibsons. I like many different basses but Rics have charactor especially the 4001's. I do not like active basses however, I had a couple or three new P and J bass American Deluxes and thought although it was nice having a three band EQ right on the bass that the sound was a little cold. I think the new Ric 4003's are much more bass than the new Fenders although I still like them.

Though I have been playing RICs on and off since my first one in 1974, I do from time to time get a bit sidetracked...
At the moment it is with 1962 RI F****r Jazzes. I think it's a passing thing, though I have now played a couple of gigs just with the Jazz.
I always come back to my '72 4001 though. The neck , feel and tone are just so special.

Well, I'm mainly a Precision Bass player for about 18 years. I bought my first Ric about 3-4 weeks ago and I'm starting to check it out in my bands. I'm a little concerned because it ,,only'' is a 4000 with a bridge pickup, but we'll see.
Last wednesday I played with two acoustic guitars and it worked very well. I'd love to play it as my main bass in this band, perhaps changing to a Thunderbird '91, if I need more ,,bottom'' in a few rock songs.
All I can say is, that the Ric is one of my best sounding basses. But this doesn't necessarily mean, that it is the best choice for any situation.
It's always fun to check out things like this.
