4000 series bolt-on
How's this for an idea? Rickenbacker re-issues the 4000, and the 4003-S as a bolt on neck, single truss rod series ? Perhaps with some real cool custom options.

John Hall has successfully defended Rickenbacker against Trademark Dilution in ways the Fender and Gibson folk would give their eye teeth to do over, if possible.
That commitment to preserving trademark pretty much nixes the "Mighty Mite Rick" idea, I'd say. To hear Hall tell it, it has to be that way.

The ideal mix leaves the bass player louder than the rest of the band put together!

You can make your own Ric ...
Yau can get a blank piece of wood route it out or hire somebody to do it ... this will make a body ready to accept a bolt on neck ... then you can get a neck with a club headstock ... you can saw out a ric headstock pattern ... the bolt it on add pickups and a bridge ... and you have your own custon shop ric shaped bass ... just don't make them for resale and the laywers will leave you alone ... I may do this someday just out of curiosity ...

All I suggested was that "RICKENBACKER".. re-issue the 4000 and the 4003-S as a bolt on package. I never mentioned any thing about sub-standard quality or outsourced construction. And the only reason I refered to the single truss rod design is because 99% of bolt on necks are a single rod design.
