Owning one, I can say this one on ebay has very nice flamey maple AND beautiful walnut. Dunno about saying it sounds like a ******-off P-bass, but it is warmer and full, and aggressive. I love the tone of mine and the neck is a joy. Mine is a 1995 but I believe the necks should be the same. Definitely not your 4001/4003 sound, look, or feel (oil finish - silky) but wnderful basses. Ask Brian!

the 4004ci has a more mid voiced sound when compared to a 4003 or a jazz or p bass ...

someone must have made a good offer on it. I was all set to throw down some cash for this one too. Oh well.
