Capri at the Beach

Post by rick_ovic »

I've been experimenting with photography at my local beach in Melbourne. I don't pretend to be anything other than an amateur doing the "point-and-shoot" thing but I'm having fun.

Many of you will be familiar with Miss September, my '59 335 MG Capri. This guitar was featured on the cover of the Forum calendar and is next month's poster girl.

I've since removed the clanky ol' Kaufmann Vibrola and added a trapeze tailpiece, kindly supplied by Brian Simer. She now stays in tune beautifully.

Looks like my '60 Capri...

...used to.

Except mine is a '60...

...and had an "Accent by Paul" vibrato.

I've pinned my Kaufmanns and it allows me to keep that vintage look while keeping tune, too.

But if I was going to remove the vibrato, I'd go with the trapeze, too.

Gorgeous guitar, D.

The aged MG on your Capri is perfect, Darren. I spent a lot of time looking at the September picture! (My birth month as well)

Hey Paul, perhaps one day we can bring our guitars together for a Capri MG twins photo once you've finished applying your magic touch to yours?

John, the finish is even better close up. There are fine hairline horizontal cracks across the body which give it a real antique appearance.

Excellent backdrop Darren, and fantastic subject matter. If you're in the mood for sharing a couple of hi res pics of the Capri would make a nice desktop to drool over! LOL Image

Darren, my Capri was finished last week.

It's no longer MG, alas.

It'll be at RIC75.

Man, those early pickups are something!!!
