I have an MC that looks like an ME. Toaster, C/B but small inlays. The fireglo from this period is one of the best too imo, but maybe not as good as that fireglo body a few posts above....

Yea that's kind of strange Andrew, do you think they actually made that bass in May but had an extra "MC" plate laying around the shop and slapped it on there. I'm only guessing that because of the way they make basses in blocks or groups, if indeed they were doing that back then, you would think that most of the MC necks would be very similar. That early period of 1973 was very interesting and fuels my main reason for collecting 4001's from that time.

It could be that Mark. Another explanation is that the original was lost/destroyed and someone fitted a close serial number.

I have an MD fretless and the neck is slightly thicker than the MC/E...
