Almost sold my 4004cii

Post by lowendbob »

Barry asked that I post this for him.

I've done it ! Concentrics and toasters .I was having so much wrist pain lately that I posted my 4004 on Craigslist . Then decided to play her one more time and she just sounded Perfect ! Delete Craigslist ad . I just can not remember what strings I used . I think they are Rickenbacker but could also be Dean Markley Blue Steels . Any body know if RICs have any colored ends on them ? The strings on this bass have nothing in the way of colored ball ends or wraping . Do Blue Steels have any colors on them ? Forum family to the rescue !

I'm pretty sure Rickenbacker strings have no silk wrappings; they're just plain nickel.

I wouldn't want to sell that bass if it were mine!
Bobcat, you're right, RIC bass strings do not have the silk wrapping.
The last time I used Blue Steels, they had a light blue colored silk wrap on the ends.

Cool, another concentric mod. Total flexibility and completely reversible. Gotta love it! I am glad you to patched things up. She is a beauty.

Did you make the concentric mod with or without the switch?

Did'nt feel like I needed the switch . Love the toasters ! Just had to keep the gold theme going , so they dont look like toasters . HBs are in a box .

Barry (should we call you Rick? LOL) it looks to me like you made the right decision. I would not sell that bass either. She's definitely a keeper. Love the mods too.

So those are toasters without the cover's ?? Can you post a close up ?? I've been considering the same mod.

How does it sound with roundwounds and the toasters??

Hi Scott . Yes , those are toasters without the chrome covers . The gold 4004 Cii covers fit right on , no problem . How does it sound ? To me.....Perfect ! If the HBs are a little dark the toasters have all the bottom but a cleaner top end sheen . Finger style I have all controls full up . With a pick I like to play an open string and then roll back the bridge pickup just until I hear a tone change . The sound of this Bass just kills me !!!!

What's the attraction of the 4004 without humbuckers?
I want a 4004 because of the humbuckers.
Just like to know why you guys would rather put toasters in a 4004 instead of a 4003?
Buy it before someone else does.

See what I started with toasters on the 4004, or was that the other Jeff? Sometimes I get confused between the two! Image
