Rics and the next generation....

A few days ago I was working on my 481 at the kitchen table when my son (age 6) brought a friend home from school....they came in to see what I was doing and my son said to his friend, "That's a Rickenbacker, the most beautiful guitar in the world!" Never mind that that one is the least beautiful of my rics, and it was in pieces at the time! I guess he's heard me say it enough! I hope he continues to share that same sentiment when he gets bigger!

I am sure he will. And I am sure RIC wishes he will too. Be sure to get your son to practice his reading, writing and arithmetic on The Rickenbacker Forum.

Well, not many years ago, every time my two nieces, now aged 14 and 19, came visiting with my brother and my sister-in-law they would ask me to play something on the 'flashy guitar with the unique, crystal-clear sound'. Meaning, my 4080.

That's a great story, Melissa.

I was impressed with a 12 year old at my Dad's church - who was quite enthusiastic when told that I was a Rickenbacker player. I have no idea what he listens to music wise, but perhaps he's discovered his parents' Beatles records.

I drove my twelve year old nephew to his guitar lesson yesterday. While waiting for him, I was checking out a 650C JG. He walked up behind me and said, "I like that one better" pointing to the 650D hanging on the wall.

This is what he has now.

Similar reaction here at home. My daughter announced to her music (guitar ) teacher when asked " what if anything the parents played".
"My dad has 3 Rickenbackers"

Since then there has been a steady dribble of boyfriends mates visiting and asking if they can take a peek..( at the Rics). Even teacher is impressed.. Who needs to play for fame ? Just Buy Ric

I mentioned this on another thread, but I'll mention it here again, since it's pertinent to this discussion.

Where my band jams we've aquired some fans. A whole gaggle of 13 to 15 year old skater kids come to hear us at least twice a week. Yesterday I invited them in while we were taking a break. They thought everything was pretty cool, but the whole group of them stopped and stared at my blue 620. When they asked I told them it was mine, and that I played lead, so all the solo stuff they could hear fomr outside was that guitar. One of the kids piped up and said "Thats a f%#*ing sick guitar, man!" So the kids love 'em too, the RIC legacy lives on!

Richard: I can see from your nephew's guitar that he is right handed. Does this mean it might be difficult for you to smoke by a 650CLH JG as a practice guitar for him? Let's face it we have a responsiblity to assist our nephews, don't we?

Peter, Let's just say that I would not have purchased that 650C JG for myself as it did not have the LH option.

My 17 year old son brought home a friend who plays in a local head-banging band. Apparently, my son had mentioned to him that I play guitar, too. This kid went on and on for what seemed like an hour describing his equipment to me. Then he asked, "So what do you have?" "Nothing fancy," I said. "Just this Vox amp and this is my main guitar," I said, holding up the 360. "Aw, dude!" he says. "You got a Ric? Can I hold it?" I plugged her in, and let him play for a bit - he was so gentle with it I felt like saying, "Just play the guitar, man!" But he was very respectful, and pretty cool (albeit pretty weird looking). He thanked me at least a dozen times for letting him play a "class" guitar.
